I could have been been a billionaire twice over if I had a £1 for every time I heard the expression “i’m getting to old for this”. The simple fact is when is comes to looking the best possible version of your self there is no such thing as ‘age’ as an excuse to shield yourself from what really is a negative attitude and a lazy or non existent will power.

To uphold my statement, I here below give you a photo of Jennifer Lopez recently snapped at The Video Music Awards.

J-Lo takes your breath away in this photo, not because she is some size zero emaciated plastic unachievable beauty but because she is a real woman, note the curves, the hips and the glow of her skin?

At 45 she is a perfect role model of how working at your body, your health, your skin, can reap rewards for you no matter your age. Yes she is wearing a designer gown, and sporting immaculately styled hair and make-up, but let’s just strip that away and focus on her body. It is an amazing body with tone and definition and healthy skin that betrays her real age. A body she herself can take credit for and no one else.

Now I know many of you are now going to strike back at me as say things like “yeah but she has a personal, trainer, nanny, chef and cook to allow her to look like that” but here’s my strike back, yes correct maybe she does have more time than you and me, and she doesn’t have to worry about cooking tonights meal for the kids, doing the housework and helping her kids with their homework on top of a pile of e-mails you need to answer because work was too busy today to answer them all, BUT she still has to work up a sweat herself, and DO those ab crunches, lift those weights, run on that treadmill, sweat a lot, and think about what she eats and drinks even if it is provided for her on a silver tray. The moral of the blog here is: WILL POWER. If you want to look good YOU CAN. There is no excuse, no lazy butt reasons, you will just do it.

About a year ago I changed my way of thinking too, and I woke up and realised that time was ticking by, was I going to just accept the consequences of time? and gracefully age? or fight back like Rocky Balboa?. I chose to fight back by thinking about the food I ate, the things I drank, and most importantly I invested in time in moving my body for the benefit of my own mental and physical health. One year ago I could not run ten minutes without almost passing out, now I can run 5km in 25 minutes, ok so I am not quite Olympic material, nor will I ever be, but  I have proved to myself that I CAN do it, and just like J-Lo I enjoy playing a cunning game against ageing and winning.
