The last time I tried anything from the Dr. Lewinn’s range it was the fabulous ReNuNail 3 Step Formula, so when the brand released their new Skin Perfect Foundation I decided to put it to the test, why?, well I thought if this foundation can do for the skin what their ReNuNail products can do for the nails, then maybe we could be on to a winner here?.
The Foundation is presented in a simple smart brown glossy box with gold branding, there is nothing here that screams pretentious, here the brand has stayed close to their traditional style and objective which is ‘no nosense’. Dr. Lewinn’s claims that the anti ageing benefits of this foundation include:
- visibly reducing wrinkles and pores
- helps to enhance firmness, improves skin regeneration
- hydrates
- SPF to protect the skin
However I note that none of the press material documents I am sent actually contains reference to any supporting studies or scientific data to uphold the ‘benefits’ claim. I’m a facts girl, so where there are NO facts, it could all end up actually being just ‘nonsense’.
After one week of wearing the foundation in the shade of ‘Tan’ (there are six shades altogether), I conclude that the foundation does give good coverage, although for my preference I note that it is quite sheer and light, not bad news for all you lightweight foundation fans.
The foundation is long wearing, and doesn’t falter after six hours, it does have a remarkably lovely silky, velvety touch, I am impressed at how easy it is to apply smoothly and it completes a look with a lovely dewy radiance boosting finish, I would recommend using the accompanying primer to give the foundation that longer lasting strength it needs though.
Dr. Lewinn’s claims that the ingredients contained in the foundation below are responsible for the anti ageing claims, however the percentage of the actual ingredients within the foundation are so small that they are not powerful enough to truly carry out the claims made, (I’m no science geek but I’ve been in this business long enough now to understand the basics)
- Rose Stem Cells – to renew and stimulate the skin
- Matrixyl 3000 – encourages skin to produce more collagen
- Tourmaline – precious gems to boost the skins radiance
- Sodium Hyaluronate – intensely hydrates
For the period I have tried and tested this foundation, I cannot say my skin is any more taught, less wrinkled or brighter, when the foundation is cleansed away nightly all of these imperfections are still there in all their wonderful glory, for a foundation to truly carry out the claims made, it would have to have drug-like potency to penetrate the skin at such depth and ability, and clearly it does not possess this.
I am pleased it does contain SPF 15, so this is a bonus, but again I like my SPF a little higher these days.
I do like this foundation is it a good alternative to the usual suspects I use daily, but it is no miracle performer, but it certainly gives light to medium fresh looking coverage with a touch of dewy youth to boot.
