The question I think every woman asks when they reach their 40’s is: do I grow old gracefully, or do I have to resort to drastic measures to maintain my skin? I wanted to see if there was a treatment on the market that was natural and safe and that would effectively address my skin concerns. After sharing my thoughts with my very knowledgeable aesthetician, Danielle Young, at Epsom Skin Clinics, she told me about eDermastamp. It is a procedure that creates hundreds of tiny puncture wounds into the skin (otherwise known as skin needling) to create minor trauma to the skin. The bodies’ own natural healing mechanism then kicks in to heal the perceived ‘trauma’ – thus creating more collagen, which, in turn, results in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, overall skin clarity and firmness, and also acne scarring. All well and good – but the word ‘needles’ was mentioned … and I am not a fan of needles – but I trusted Danielle and knew I was in safe hands.
After feeling satisfied that the treatment was 100% safe, I decided to take the plunge and have the treatment. And I could only trust Danielle, who is so skilled and experienced to undertake the treatment.

Day One: I arrive at the clinic and Danielle applies an anaesthetic cream to my face. After about 45 minutes my skin feels numb. Danielle assures me that by using genuine eDermastamp there is no dragging, tearing or scratching of the skin, and as the needles are used once only, it is totally sterile and safe. I expect the needling to hurt, but to my surprise, it doesn’t at all. It is just a mild sensation of feeling Danielle working the eDermastamp – which look like a pen – all over my face, avoiding the eye area. She then soothes the skin with a wonderful silk face mask containing anti-inflammatory properties.

Afterwards she applies a cream called ‘Chiroxy’ which is used post procedure to soothe and deeply moisturise the skin. She advises me to use this for the next week or so, and says that I must always wear a SPF50 sunscreen too. I look in the mirror, and my face is bright red, like it is sunburnt. Danielle had told me to expect this prior to the treatment taking place, and assured me it would calm in 2-3 days.

Day Two – To my surprise, when I wake up, my skin is far less red. By the end of the day it is almost normal. I cannot wear makeup but I have booked a few days at home so that doesn’t matter too much! I use a gentle cleanser morning and night and apply the Chiroxy cream religiously, together with the sunblock.

Day Five – My face has recovered completely and I am excited to see how my skin changes over the next few weeks. I was told that eDermastamp stimulates the bodies’ natural cell turnover so true results will take around six weeks to show – almost like a photograph developing. I have to remain patient!

End of Week One – Dare I say that my skin is looking more luminous?

Week Three – I decided during week one not to actively ‘look’; for changes in my skin; and that when I noticed them, I would be pleasantly surprised. Well here it is; I’ve noticed a definite reduction in the stubborn pigmentation on my forehead and when my sister, who has an eagle eye, meets me for lunch and comments that my skin is glowing and luminous, I am thrilled that it’s not just me that can notice the positive change.

Week Four – Dare I say it? Those stubborn nose/mouth lines definitely look fainter and my skin is looking much firmer, especially around the jawline.

End of week Six: Well, was it worth it? eDermastamp may not be like be like those salon facials that I have had in the past (which were more like a relaxing treatment than a serious long term beauty fix). It is definitely an advanced facial but the initial redness I experienced was worth it. My skin has improved a great deal; it is firmer, plumper, clearer, and smoother and I feel confident to step out of the house with little more than my usual skincare creams and sunblock – and no foundation. No foundation? I haven’t been able to do that since my 20’s. I’m thrilled! Bottom line: would I have this treatment again? Definitely! I’m told that the results will improve even further if I have another 1-2 treatments. I’m going to book in early next year for my second treatment. I’m a convert!
