6a00e54ecca8b988330133f402f7ed970b-450wiLast month I featured Ulthera in an article I wrote for Woman’s Own Magazine (The Anti Ageing Edition April 2013).

Since the article was published, I seem to have had lots of questions on the treatment itself, namely in relation to the brow lift that Ulthera seems to have gained popularity for as well as it’s face-lifting treatment.

Droopy eyebrows? well, Paris Hilton has them, as does Blake Lively, George Clooney and Simon Cowell, Even I am beginning to see the slight hint of one too!.

Whether it’s an inherited facial feature or simply due to the ageing process, droopy eyelids can make even the rich and famous look tired, older and less attractive than they may want to be.

Direct from the USA where it is hugely popular, arrives the non-invasive Brow Lift from Ulthera, the only procedure approved by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to lift skin on this hard-to-treat area. Ulthera uses ultrasound and the body’s own natural healing process to lift, tone and tighten loose skin on the brow. In a 30-minute treatment, it has been claimed by Ulthera, that it can achieve a brow lift of as much as 2 cm.

Ulthera claims that it is the only non-invasive treatment that can specifically target the deep foundation below the skin that is addressed in cosmetic surgery without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.

It works from the inside-out, reconditioning tired skin by stimulating the growth of fresh, new collagen, tightening and gradually lifting the skin back into a more youthful position and form-fitting shape.

The procedure is very much like the ultra sound imaging that expectant mothers may receive. A smooth applicator is placed on the skin and an image of the tissue beneath is projected on a screen. This allows the practitioner to see where they will treat the skin. The difference with Ulthera is that the same hand piece is used to deliver tiny deposits of focused ultrasound energy at just the right depth below the skin, to the same foundational layer typically address in a surgical facelift.

Comfort levels vary from patient to patient but many report a prickling sensation, which can be relieved through over the counter pain relief. Skin may appear slightly flushed afterwards but any redness subsides within a few hours.

Ulthera can also be used for a cheek lift, jaw line lift, jowl lift, upper lip lift, entire non-surgical face-lift and neck lift. Results may last 2 years or longer based on the patient’s natural ageing process.

Ulthera is available through authorised cosmetic and aesthetic clinics throughout the UK and Ireland.
