Large Volume Liposuction

Large Volume Liposuction

Large volume liposuction (circumferential liposuction, total body liposuction) is defined as the removal of more than five liters total volume of fat and other fluids from the patient by suction. Large volume liposuction is usually used to treat patients who are 30-40 pounds overweight who need a significant reduction in fat and body measurements.

What is a large volume liposuction

Large volume liposuction involves surgery in at least five body areas, simultaneously, whereas conventional liposuction treats only localized areas. Suctioning out a volume of over five litres of fluid and fat is regarded as high volume liposuction.

Due to the amount of fat being removed, the operation takes longer than conventional body sculpting liposuction. Nearly all large volume lipo operations are performed under general anaesthesia and most patients stay in the hospital for at least one night after surgery.

There are limitations on how much fat can safely be removed in one large volume liposuction procedure.

A large volume liposuction procedure can be done with a variety of techniques – tumescent lipo, ultrasonic lipo, and laser liposuction.

Once you have liposuction, the fat cells are gone forever. However, it is still important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet.

Liposuction surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis.

Am I a candidate for a large volume liposuction?

The best candidates for large volume liposuction are in good physical and emotional health and have realistic expectations of what their liposuction plastic surgery can accomplish.

Large volume liposuction Recovery and Healing Steps

The amount of time it takes to recover from liposuction varies, depending on the individual, the techniques used, how much fat has been removed and the area/s treated. The first few days after surgery, you should rest as much as possible.

Straining, bending over and lifting should be avoided during the early postoperative period.

Large volume liposuction Side Effects and Risks

The subject of liposuction risks and potential complications of surgery is best discussed on a personal basis between you and your liposuction surgeon.
